Generally one can gain access to only to another’s “public” criminal data. Search on the national level is not publicly available however. These groups can help employers obtain a more detailed check.
Private companies who provide criminal background screening services often perform both criminal and civil background checks. They make use of FBI screenings and the National Instant Criminal Background Check System as well as a more detailed FBI report.
